$2,000 Social Security payments in February 2025: find out if you get a check - and when
This month’s Social Security payments are now underway, with most benefits recipients set to get their money on one of three Wednesdays.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has begun sending out February’s benefits checks to millions of recipients across the United States.
Who gets Social Security checks and how much do they receive?
Each month, the SSA issues Social Security payments to: retired workers; disabled workers who are part of the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) scheme; surviving family members of deceased workers; and Americans who qualify for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.
Retired workers make up the vast majority of the U.S.‘s approximately 76 million Social Security beneficiaries. As of December 2024, indeed, retirees represented some 70% of all Social Security beneficiaries.
The amount workers receive depends on how much they have paid in Social Security taxes, but the average monthly retirement check in 2025 stands at about $2,000.
Meanwhile, disabled workers get an average of nearly $1,600 a month, and the surviving spouse of a deceased worker gets an average of around $1,800 each month.
Under the SSI program - which is different from the above schemes as it is needs-based rather than contribution-based - the top monthly check for an individual beneficiary is approximately $1,000 in 2025.

When are Social Security payments going out in February 2025?
SSI
Recipients of SSI payments should have already received their February check. SSI money is normally paid on the first of each month, but that payment date is brought forward if the month begins on a weekend or holiday.
As February 1 was a Saturday, the SSA said it would be issuing SSI checks on Friday, January 31.
Retirement, disability (SSDI) and survivors’ benefits
Most other Social Security beneficiaries are to receive their check on one of three Wednesdays this month. This is as part of a staggered system by which beneficiaries' payment date is determined by their birthday.
The payment schedule for February 2025 is as follows:
Weds, Feb. 12: Beneficiaries born on 1st to 10th of the month
Weds, Feb. 19: Beneficiaries born on 11th to 20th of the month
Weds, Feb. 26: Beneficiaries born on 21st to 31st of the month
Any there any other Social Security payment dates in February 2025?
Yes, there are. Retired workers, disabled workers and survivors who began receiving their payments before May 1997 always get their money on the third of each month, regardless of the day they were born.
