2023 Oscars
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert wins the 2023 Best Director Oscar award
The directing duo wins the coveted award for the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known collectively as the Daniels, have won the 2023 Best Director Oscar award for ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.
The duo beat out the likes of Todd Field for ‘Tár’, Martin McDonah for ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, Steven Spielberg for ‘The Fablemans’ and Ruben Östlund for ‘Triangle of Sadness’.
It comes after the Daniels also won at the Directors Guild of America Awards, as well the Critics Choice Awards.
The duo began their career directing music videos, including one for DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s hit song ‘Turn Down for What’ in 2013. They’ve also worked with other artists, including Foster the People, The Shins and Tenacious D.
In 2016 they ventured into feature films. They wrote and directed ‘Swiss Army Man’, which stars Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe. The film received positive reviews and helped the Daniels win the Directing Award at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
They’re also set to venture into the world of television, as they are set to direct and executive-produce the comedy pilot ‘Mason’ with A24.
However it’s their work on ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, which they directed and produced, that has helped them earn their first Academy Award.
