Can I stream the State of the Union?

Yes. CSPAN will be streaming the President’s speech live on their website. Additionally, the White House will be streaming the event on its YouTube channel, with translation into ASL available.

What is President Biden expected to talk about during the State of the Union?

With a divided Congress, the State of the Union will allow President Biden to share his plan for the next two years with the American public and explain how his legislative priorities contrast with those of the GOP. Republican leaders have made clear that they intend to extract concessions over federal spending from Democrats before approving an increase to the country’s debt limit. Some of the programs Republicans have put on the table to be cut or altered are Social Security and Medicare. However, after these plans began to circulate, former President Donald Trump warned members of his party that they should avoid such cuts because of their popularity among seniors.

Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy (CA-R), visited the White House last week to begin negotiating with the president. Both sides reported that the meeting was productive, but no agreements have yet to be announced.

Additionally, President Biden is likely to tout his administration’s work throughout the economic recovery, which has led to a record-low unemployment rate. While inflation continues to represent a significant issue for households across the United States, price increases are slowing, and that process has not slowed job growth.
