With just one month to go before the start of the World Cup in the United States, Christian Pulisic continues to struggle at AC Milan, and on Sunday he was ruled out of the Rossoneri’s match against Atalanta.

Just hours before kick-off, Allegri lost the American winger to a muscle injury that also forced him to miss the team’s final training session before the game, according to Italian media reports.

Pulisic reportedly suffered a glute problem during training and withdrew from practice. He is expected to undergo further tests to determine the extent of the injury.

Portuguese forward Rafael Leão will replace the American in Sunday’s starting lineup as Allegri’s side look to secure a Champions League place for next season.

There is growing concern in the United States over the fitness and form of its captain. Pulisic has yet to score a goal this year, raising alarm bells in the American media, although the player himself remains calm about the situation.

In a recent interview with Time magazine, Pulisic said he was “not worried” about his current form and insisted he is ready to contribute to the national team at the World Cup.

Recent results have done little to inspire optimism around Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but Pulisic believes a strong World Cup run would change the narrative, saying, “If we have a good World Cup, everything will be forgotten.”
