2025 Nobel Peace Prize 2025 winner announced: did Trump get his coveted award?
Another year and another vision of peace has been chosen by the Nobel Committee to honour.

All eyes were turned to Oslo on Friday, 10 October 2025, when at 11a.m. local time (5 a.m. ET) the Norwegian Nobel Committee unveiled this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The announcement marks the highlight of a week of Nobel reveals running from October 6 to 13.
This year, the Nobel Institute recorded 338 nominations – 244 individuals and 94 organisations – for the award. As always, the shortlist and deliberations remained tightly guarded under the Nobel Foundation’s 50-year secrecy rule.

Trump in the Nobel spotlight
A recurring focus in this year’s speculation has been US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly insisted he deserves the prize, claiming – with limited evidence – to have ended “seven wars” and helped broker a Gaza ceasefire through his 20-point peace plan, the latter still very much in its infancy. Betting markets had placed him among the frontrunners, but most analysts remained sceptical.
Experts point out that the Nobel Committee traditionally rewards sustained, collective peace efforts rather than headline-grabbing diplomacy or self-promotion. While Trump has received credit for certain mediation attempts, critics argue his retreat from international institutions and confrontational foreign policy undercut his case for the award.
Other contenders in focus
Beyond Trump, several names had drawn serious attention. Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms – volunteer networks coordinating humanitarian relief amid the country’s civil conflict – were widely seen as strong candidates. So too was the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), recognised for defending press freedom in an era when independent media is under threat worldwide.
Both would reflect the Nobel Committee’s historic preference for humanitarianism and civil society over geopolitics, but there were many others just as worthy.
Who won the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize 2025?
And the winner is... Maria Corina Machado.
María Corina Machado has been named the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, a recognition that highlights her years-long struggle for democracy, human rights, and political freedom in Venezuela.
As a prominent opposition leader and founder of the party Vente Venezuela, Machado has faced repeated repression – including disqualification from elections, threats to her safety, and periods of underground activism – yet has continued to mobilize both domestically and internationally. Her leadership is often framed as a moral stand against authoritarianism, and the Nobel Committee’s choice underscores the global significance attributed to Venezuela’s democratic crisis under Nicolás Maduro.
