$500 monthly checks in California: Who is eligible and how to claim them?
Some residents of the city of Pomona, California, can receive $500 per month. Find out if you are eligible for this financial assistance and how to apply.
A city in California has joined areas that implement guaranteed income programs. The city of Pomona, with the help of FORWARD, will begin accepting applications for the city’s Household Universal Grants Pilot Program, also known as the HUG program.
A total of 600 applicants will be randomly selected by lottery to participate in the program to receive $500 per month for 18 months, or stipend payments of $20 for the same period.
Of the 600, 250 will be selected to receive the $500 and be part of the paid group, while 350 participants will be selected to participate in the control group and receive stipend payments of $20 for 18 months.
All program participants from both groups, will also be invited to participate in surveys provided by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). For each survey completed they will also receive a $50 bonus payment.

Applications will be accepted starting June 17 at 8 a.m. P.T. until July 8 at 11 p.m P.T. The draw will be held on July 10, 2024 to choose the 600 approved applicants.
Applications will be reviewed between July 10 and August 1, 2024. If necessary, applicants will have the opportunity to update their documentation during this time.
Applicants will be notified on August 12, 2024 if they have been selected for the program and will be informed which group they have been assigned to, whether the $500 or $20 payment group. The first payments are scheduled to be sent via a reloadable debit card provided by August 26, 2024.
