Update:

On July 2, 2025, the UK Parliament voted overwhelmingly to proscribe the non-violent, direct action group, Palestine Action, changing their legal designation from peaceful protesters to a terrorist organisation.

Palestine Action have never been involved in acts of violence or incitement to violence, unlike many other, more well-known terrorist groups such as ISIS or Al-Qaeda, making their proscription a particularly curious case in UK politics.

Most recently, Palestine Action were accused of breaking into a Royal Air Force base and spraying red paint over an aircraft. The base in question is Brize Norton, a site where RAF craft are stationed before taking part in the chain of reconnaissance flights over Gaza in occupied Palestine. Despite questioning from some politicians, the UK government has offered no explanation as to why they are carrying out these flights.

The suspects aged 24, 29 and 36 were arrested and, according to the police and as reported by the British Broadcasting Corporation, “suspected of ‘the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism’."

‘Britain isn’t just complicit, it’s an active participant in the Gaza genocide and war crimes’

A spokesperson for Palestine Action said: “Despite publicly condemning the Israeli government, Britain continues to send military cargo, fly spy planes over Gaza, and refuel U.S./Israeli fighter jets. Britain isn’t just complicit, it’s an active participant in the Gaza genocide and war crimes across the Middle East. By decommissioning two military planes, Palestine Action have directly intervened to break the chains of oppression."

While Members of Parliament have voted to approve the proscription of Palestine Action, the motion must pass through the House of Lords before potentially coming into effect by the weekend. Afterwards, it will be illegal to both be a member and show support for Palestine Action in any way, with sentences of up to 14 years a possibility.

Novara Media writes that “wearing a Palestine Action T-shirt... or expressing a positive opinion about it online could all be grounds for arrest and prosecution” under new legislation.

As the UK government move to equate a can of paint with a suicide vest, Israel continues its genocide of the Palestinian people, with the latest killings of innocent beach-goers in a supposedly safe area just the latest harrowing story in a long line of sickening events being carried out in the region.
