Attention: Costco to close all U.S. stores on May 26
Costco, the world’s third-largest retailer, is to shut its doors across the United States on Monday, May 26.

Costco is to close its doors across the United States early next week, as the country observes Memorial Day 2025.

“Honoring service members who lost their lives”

First held in the late 1860s, Memorial Day is about “honoring service members who lost their lives in defense of the nation”, the U.S. government says.

What other days is Costco closed?
Costco says it closes throughout the U.S. on the following days each year:
- New Year’s Day
- Easter Sunday
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
One of the globe’s top retailers
Founded in Seattle in 1983, Costco is now the world’s third-largest retailer by revenue, per the U.S.’s National Retail Federation. Only Walmart and Amazon are ahead in the NRF’s latest global ranking.
Unlike Costco, Walmart is to operate its normal opening hours on Memorial Day 2025, the company has confirmed to USA Today.
