Bad news for beneficiaries: There will be no Social Security payments on the fourth Wednesday in December
Retirees usually get their Social Security benefits on Wednesday, but for the fourth week of December this will not happen due to a calendar irregularity.
Majority of retirees who are Social Security beneficiaries receive their monthly check on a Wednesday. If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of the month, payments are sent on the second Wednesday of each month, so you should have received it on Dec. 11.
If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of the month, payments are distributed on the third Wednesday, meaning you can expect your check this week, on Dec. 18.
However, If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of the month, and you are used to getting your money on the fourth Wednesday of the month, you will not be paid on this day in December.

The change in date is due to adjustments in the Social Security calendar to accommodate Christmas Day. If your payment date falls on a weekend or on a federal holiday (which Christmas Day is), the benefit is sent on the preceding business day. For the fourth week of this month, checks will be sent out on Tuesday, Dec. 24.
The agency sends checks a day early in these cases to ensure beneficiaries have access to their funds without delay. Banks and financial institutions are generally closed on federal holidays and weekends, which could prevent recipients from accessing their funds if payments were sent on those days.

Many beneficiaries rely on Social Security payments for essential expenses like rent, utilities, and groceries. Receiving payments on time, even if it means they get them early, helps guarantee they can meet their financial obligations without interruption.
The administration follows a structured payment schedule, and is mandated to make sure payments are made on time or earlier when necessary. Adjusting delivery by sending money early allows them to comply with these regulations.
