Bank of America will temporarily close all branch locations nationwide in observance of Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day. Because the holiday falls alongside a weekend, branches will remain closed for three consecutive days.

Typically, when banks close for a federal holiday, they resume operations the following day. However, next month Bank of America branches will remain closed from June 19 through June 21.

In 2026, Juneteenth will be observed on Friday, June 19. Since Bank of America does not operate on federal holidays, branches will be closed that day. In addition, locations will remain closed on June 20 and 21 because they fall on Saturday and Sunday, when the bank is normally closed.

Like Bank of America, most major banks will also close on June 19, including Wells Fargo, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Chase, Citibank, U.S. Bank, SunTrust Bank, Capital One, Citizens Bank, Santander Bank, BBVA Compass, and many others. Customers are encouraged to check with their local branch for updated hours and holiday schedules.

When will Bank of America branches reopen?

Bank branches will resume normal in-person operations on Monday, June 22. Although most large and regional banks will close for Juneteenth, online banking services and ATMs will remain available.

Customers will still be able to complete most everyday banking tasks digitally. However, it is important to remember that payments scheduled during a federal holiday followed by a weekend may not begin processing until the next business day.

Bank of America holiday closures in 2026

Banks and financial institutions rely on services provided through the Federal Reserve. Because the Federal Reserve closes during the 11 official federal holidays, banks are generally unable to provide full services and also shut down operations.

Among the 11 federal holidays recognized by the U.S. government, some occur on fixed dates while others change each year. In addition, when a holiday falls on a weekend, it may be officially observed on a nearby weekday. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is typically observed on the preceding Friday. If it falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday.
