“This tomato is a natural antioxidant thanks to one of its main components, lycopene, which reduces the risk and damage caused by free radicals. It has also been studied and shown to reduce the risk of several types of cancer, such as prostate and lung cancer,” he says. He then goes on to explain the benefits tomatoes have for heart health: “Thanks to nutrients like potassium and vitamin C, they help maintain a healthy heart rhythm, lower blood pressure and promote good blood circulation. They also reduce bad cholesterol.”
Because they contain vitamin A, lutein and zeaxanthin, tomatoes are also an ally for eye health. “One wonderful thing about tomatoes is that they improve and protect our vision thanks to their vitamin A, lutein and zeaxanthin. It’s like having clear glasses protecting your eyes,” he explains.
The benefits do not stop there. “They are good for people with arthritis. Thanks to their calcium and vitamin K content, they help strengthen bones. They also improve constipation and support brain health thanks to their antioxidants.”
