Casper Frank Møller, a businessman in Greenland: “We’re all really worried; Trump’s threats pose risks for tourism”
The island is once again in the White House’s spotlight, following the military operation carried out in Venezuela and the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s interest in Greenland is not new. Months ago, he repeatedly stressed the island’s importance from both a commercial and Western defense perspective.
These arguments lie behind what appears to be a simple “obsession” with controlling the autonomous Danish territory, which has returned to the spotlight after the military operation in Venezuela and the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces.
In fact, the Republican president did not rule out a possible military intervention on the island during what appeared to be an informal conversation with reporters. He argued that Washington needs Greenland “for national security reasons” and claimed that the territory is currently “surrounded by Chinese and Russian ships.”
“Enough fantasies…”
These remarks have not gone over well in Denmark. In statements reported by Business Insider, prominent Danish figures expressed concern about the stance the United States might take, including Casper Frank Møller, a businessman in Greenland.
“We’ve made investments into developing our tourism aspects of our company, and it comes with risk now because of the geopolitical situation and the threats by Trump,” he said. “So of course, yeah, we’re all really worried.”
Copenhagen has made it clear that it will not consider transferring the territory to the United States under any circumstances. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen went so far as to say that such a scenario would mean “the end of NATO.” Meanwhile, Greenlandic leader Jens-Frederik Nielsen dismissed Trump’s desire to annex the territory as “fantasies” and “insinuations.”
European support for Denmark
Geopolitics also plays a central role in U.S. interest in Greenland. The wealth of minerals and rare earth elements buried beneath the ice is another key factor drawing Washington’s attention, along with Arctic shipping routes that also attract countries such as Russia.
From Europe, leading officials have voiced their support for Denmark on this issue while avoiding direct confrontation with the United States and emphasizing the importance of ensuring security in the region.
