Chase has confirmed that it will suspend in-person services nationwide this month. All branches will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day, also known as the Day of Remembrance. All locations will resume normal operations the following day.

In addition to Chase, other banks that will also close on May 25 include Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citibank, U.S. Bank, SunTrust Bank, Capital One, Citizens Bank, Wells Fargo, Santander Bank, BBVA, and Compass Bank, among others, as most banks observe the holiday.

Why do banks close on federal holidays?

Banks across the country, including Chase, close during the 11 official federal holidays. Financial institutions rely on services connected to the Federal Reserve. Because the Federal Reserve is closed on those holidays, banks are unable to process certain transactions and therefore shut down as well.

Although Chase branches will be closed on Memorial Day, online banking and ATM transactions will still be available. However, some services may experience delays.

Customers can complete most everyday banking tasks, but it is important to note that if a payment is scheduled on a federal holiday, processing may not begin until the next business day when the bank reopens.

Other 2026 dates when U.S. banks will be closed

Banks close during all 11 federally recognized holidays. Some fall on fixed dates, while others vary each year.

If a holiday falls on a weekend, it is typically observed on a nearby weekday. If it falls on a Saturday, it is observed the preceding Friday. If it falls on a Sunday, it is observed the following Monday.

So far this year, banks have already closed for New Year’s Day (January 1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 19), and Presidents’ Day (February 16). The remaining federal holidays in 2026 when banks will be closed are:

  • Memorial Day (last Monday in May): May 25, 2026
  • Juneteenth: June 19, 2026
  • Independence Day (observed): July 3, 2026(The holiday falls on July 4, but in 2026 it lands on a Saturday, so it is observed the day before.)
  • Labor Day (first Monday in September): September 7, 2026
  • Columbus Day (second Monday in October): October 12, 2026
  • Veterans Day: November 11, 2026
  • Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November): November 26, 2026
  • Christmas Day: December 25, 2026
