On Saturday, June 14, Chicago will celebrate the election of Pope Leo XIV, who hails from Dolton, Illinois, a suburb on the south side of the city. Earlier this week, he was spotted strutting around the Vatican in a Chicago White Sox cap, making it no surprise that Rate Field will be the site of Saturday’s event.

The Archdiocese of Chicago will be hosting the event, which will feature a new message, targeted at young people, from Pope Leo. As the church seeks to attract Catholics back to church or attract new members, younger generations are a main focus. According to Pew Research, the US is home to around 53 million Catholics, representing roughly 20 percent of the population; a figure that has fallen from approximately 24 percent in 2007.
Can the event be streamed?
Yes. The Archdiocese of Chicago YouTube account will be streaming the message from Pope Leo.
When does the event begin?
Tickets, which appear to have sold out, were sold for $5. The gates to the stadium will open at 12:30 pm. The event will get underway at 2:30 pm, with the Mass, which will be delivered by Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, expected to begin at 4:00 pm.
