Update:

On Friday 13th 2025, the world moved one step closer to doomsday: Israel launched a series of missiles that they say targeted Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, killing senior military figures. Tehran responded shortly after, launching their own strikes on Israeli land, with people killed and dozens injured, according to Israeli officials and local media.

Tension between the two nations has been there for years, with Iran’s nuclear development the reason given by Benjamin Netanyahu for the strikes being carried out.

While Iran doesn’t have nuclear weapons as of yet, the process of their formation has been rapidly increasing over time, according to the latest statistics. Despite Iran constantly maintaining the argument that the country is not looking to build nuclear weapons, the uranium - the key component in the design - is there is huge quantities.

If Iran wanted, the country could weaponise the uranium, which needs to be at 90% purity to be able to be used, in the space of a month. Last year, as explained by CNN, “the United States warned that the ‘breakout time’ – the amount of time needed to produce enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon – to one or two weeks.”

The International Atomic Energy Agency said, per CNN, that “Iran’s stock of 60% purity enriched uranium had now grown to 408 kilograms. That is enough, if enriched further, for nine nuclear weapons.”

Nuclear development is allowed, as at certain enrichments, at levels a lot lower than needed for weapons, can be used for energy purposes. Comments from Tehran say that the nuclear program is designed uniquely for that reason: to meet domestic energy needs and free up more oil for export.
