Could there be a season 5 of ‘Succession’ or a spin-off of the HBO series?

Fans of HBO’s ‘Succession’ hope a spin-off could be coming... could it happen? What about a fifth season?

‘Succession’ llegará a su fin con la temporada 4. Te compartimos todo lo que se sabe de la última entrega de la exitosa serie de HBO.

HBO’s hit series ‘Succession’ has come to an end.

While some super fans of the award-winning show hope that a spin-off or surprise fifth season could be coming, the show’s creator and executive producer Jesse Armstrong confirmed that nothing is yet in the works.

In an interview with the New Yorker about the show and the success it came to have, Armstrong was asked why he felt it was time to bring it to an end. “It’s been a bit tortured, and I felt unexpectedly nervous about talking to you, because it’s all theoretical until this point, and I have tried to keep it theoretical for a whole number of reasons,” replied the show’s creator. The interview took place before the fourth and final season premiered in late March, giving fans time to absorb the news that the drama would be wrapped up.

However, the ending has left many viewers wanting more, and it doesn’t look like they will see anything... at least in the short term. Armstrong also expressed his own challenges with the ending, saying that he had considered the question of whether or not the show should continue after the second and third seasons.

It wasn’t always going to be this way...

During the interview, Armstrong also mentioned that before his team of writers began work on the fourth season, they considered “various scenarios.” These included " a couple of short seasons or two more seasons.” Armstrong was looking for a strong ending for the show, saying he was most convinced by the idea of the writers taking the characters somewhere “a bit more muscular and complete.

How many awards did ‘Succession’ win?

Across the board, ‘Succession’ has taken home (so far) fifty-two awards of over 140 nominations. These numbers could change if the fourth season is nominated for awards over the coming year.

The first three seasons earned five (eight nominations), Critics’ Choice Television Awards, including wins for Best Drama Series twice and Best Actor in a Drama Series, awarded to Jeremy Strong for his role as Kendell Roy.

As far as Golden Globes, the show received nine nominations, for which it took home five awards. Jeremy Strong earned a Golden Globe in 2022, while Brian Cox played patriarch Logan Roy.

But when looking at television, the Primetime Emmy Awards are the reference point for industry approval. The show has secured a whopping twenty-five nominations and, with the first three seasons, won eight. Emmys were won by directors, writers, and cast members who worked on the program, highlighting the diverse talents needed to bring a great television show to millions across the world.
