Dr. José Abellán, Cardiologist: “You don’t have to reach the goal of being perfect to feel better”
The healthcare professional shares the importance of our lifestyle when it comes to losing weight.

Health is a recurring topic of conversation, and one that more and more people are becoming interested in. There are many content creators who specialize in this area, and one of the most prominent is Dr. José Abellán, a cardiologist who, in one of his latest videos, spoke about the importance of the lifestyle we lead even before losing weight.
Abellán begins by discussing one of the things that surprised him most when he learned about it: “When we have obesity, beneath the skin we also have fat around the organs. We know that visceral fat is more pro-inflammatory than subcutaneous fat.”
“When a person has obesity, for example, the heart also has a layer of fat around it called pericardial fat,” he explains. “To some extent, it nourishes the heart, and physiologically it is designed to release hormones that are necessary for the heart to function properly.”

The importance of taking a balanced approach to your goal
The cardiologist goes on to explain that “when a person begins to lose weight, pericardial fat also becomes smaller. But even before it shrinks, the hormones it appears to release, as has been observed in animal studies, stop being pro-inflammatory. In other words, it is not just about the amount of fat, but also about the lifestyle you are following before you lose weight.”
The doctor concludes by emphasizing that he finds it “a very powerful message for people who are starting a lifestyle change. You don’t have to reach the goal of being perfect to be better.”
