Elon Musk has been one of the major external protagonists of the war in Ukraine. The CEO of Tesla and Twitter has been primarily responsible for providing the Ukrainian country with the satellite internet service known as Starlink, owned by the SpaceX company, and he also challenged Vladimir Putin to a fight on the social media platform he now owns.

Musk’s “Epic” response to Medvedev’s presidential prediction

Now, however, he has become one of the main names of the prediction made by the former Russian president and current vice president of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitri Medvedev, who seems convinced that Musk will win the United States presidential election, while he also points to a new Civil War in the country and talks of war between Germany and France in 2023.

Medvedev, deputy head of Putin’s advisory security council, served as president during a four-year spell when Putin held the office of prime minister. He appears to have seen his fortune rise in the Kremlin, which said on Monday he would now serve as Putin’s deputy on a body overseeing the military industry.

In his list of predictions for 2023, published on his personal Telegram and Twitter accounts, he also foresaw Britain rejoining the EU, which would in turn collapse.

Musk, the Tesla boss who now owns Twitter, responded to the suggestion he would emerge as US president by tweeting back “Epic thread!!” and asked him to remind him in a year, although he also criticised some of Medvedev’s predictions. Medvedev has praised Musk in the past for proposing Ukraine cede territory to Russia in a peace deal.

The predictions kept on: Texas and Mexico will form an allied state; all the largest stock markets and financial activity will leave the US and Europe and move to Asia; Europe will be divided, Poland repartitioned in the process; Euro and Dollar will stop circulating as the global reserve currencies.

Medvedev ended his thread with: ‘Season greetings to you all, Anglo-Saxon friends, and their happily oinking piglets!’ before the replies started to flood in, many suggesting that he may have been drunk when composing it, or that it was strange that he didn’t have a prediction how the war his country began would end.

Putin admiring Medvedev messaging

Since Russia’s 24 February invasion of Ukraine, Medvedev has reinvented himself as an arch-hawk, framing the conflict in apocalyptic, religious terms and referring to Ukrainians as “cockroaches” in language Kyiv says is openly genocidal. Last week he made a rare foreign visit to China, holding talks on foreign policy with President Xi Jinping.

Political scientist Vladimir Pastukhov said Medvedev’s newly outspoken public persona appeared to have found favour with his boss.

“Medvedev’s Telegram posts have found at least one reader, and indeed an admirer: Putin,” Pastukhov, a political science professor at London’s University College London, wrote on his own Telegram.
