Elon Musk torn between his companies and the Trump administration: his father has already stated publicly
Errol Musk (Elon’s father) stated last November that his son ran the risk of struggling between his government responsibility and company management.

Speaking to Saudi network Al Arabiya News in November of last year, Elon Musk’s father Errol warned about his son Elon taking on government duties, saying it would be a “big concern” if he had to step away from board meetings and company leadership.
“Elon has a tremendous task on his hands,” Errol said. “He has a couple hundred thousand employees and a lot of very serious things going on in his life, so he has to be available for all that he started... [he] can’t just walk away from things.”
He added: “To have him sit in an office somewhere in Washington, no, no. He has to be called upon on a sort of consultancy basis”.
Elon’s businesses suffer
The South African born’s key businesses (Tesla cars and social media network X/Twitter) have already seen downturns since Donald Trump assumed the role of US President for the second time in January.

Tesla sold just under 7,517 vehicles in Europe in January, half of what it sold in January the year prior. The company saw a 70% year-on-year drop in Germany with a similar picture in other major markets with the likes of France and Portugal reporting slumps of 45% and 50% respectively.
I bought a Tesla because it was fast like a rocket ship. But now every time I drive it, I feel like a rolling billboard for a man dismantling our government and hurting people. So Tesla, you’re fired!

A similar fate has affected Musk’s X social media network. According to analysts at Emarketer, from when Musk acquired X in 2022 until 2025, they expect X to have lost 7 million monthly active users in the U.S. alone as many shy away from the site following his close association with the Trump campaign and it’s complicity with many far right voices.
Elon not ‘cut out’ for politics
In the interview, Errol Musk concluded: “Elon is not cut out for politics. Politics is where you have to deal with everyone, from the very incredibly clever to the very somewhat not clever, the highly sophisticated to the very unsophisticated. If you can’t do that, don’t get into politics,” the father said.
Wise words from Musk senior!
