Goodbye to Girl Scout cookies: These two popular flavors will disappear soon
This is the final Girl Scout cookie season for two fan favorites.
Girl Scout cookie season is approaching, and this is the final opportunity to order some beloved favorites. Don’t worry—Thin Mints and Samoas will continue to be available.
Earlier today, the Girl Scouts of America made the announcement, explaining that after this year, girl Scout S’mores® and Toast-Yay!®, will be retired from the offerings. If these are your favorites the organization says that one might have some difficulty with the “availability of the soon-to-be-retired varieties will vary depending on customer location.” However, they will still appear on the online order form at a cookie sale, though quantities may be limited.
How much will Girl Scout cookies cost this year?
Inflation has driven cookie prices up in recent years, and this season, they will retail for $6. Troops will receive part of the profit, with Girl Scouts in Wisconsin receiving around $1 per box sold. The Illinois branch of the organization explained the typical breakdown of how revenue from cookie sales is broken down. Around 28 percent of the revenue generated “covers the cost of operating the Cookie Program including cookie production, credit card fees, software support, transportation, storage, marketing, and personnel.” The factsheet puts the amount “pent on troop proceeds, Girl Scout rewards, Cookie/S’more Dough, and service unit bonuses” at 22 percent. The remaining funds are sent to the national organization, which is used to fund approximately “70 percent of its annual operating budget to invest in programs, activities, camps, properties, and support of troops and service units.”
How to buy Girl Scout cookies online?
If you don’t have a Girl Scout in your life, you can place an order online starting on February 21, and they will be shipped to their homes. The cookie portal also allows those who want to get their hands on cookies sooner to find a sale by local troops in their area.
Cookie season will come to an end on April 13, 2025.
