We are comparing across five major retailers: Albertsons, Amazon, Costco, Target, and Walmart.
Those with a Costco membership are likely to get the best deals on Halloween candy if we compare prices per ounce. Costco sells a bulk bag of candy that contains M&M’s, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers, Kit Kat, Twix, and other chocolate favorites for $22.99. The bag is 90 ounces, which is more than double the size offered by other retailers that we compare below, and it brings the unit price down to $0.26 per ounce. If you typically receive a lot of trick-or-treaters, this is likely your best deal. The prices seem consistent across warehouses.
However, more than telling you where you will find the best deal, this article will give you the tools you need to find the best deal in your area. Though these companies are national retailers, they increase and decrease prices depending on the market they are in. For example, at an Albertsons in Boise, Idaho, a ‘Hershey Assorted Flavored Halloween Candy Bulk Bag Multipack (125-39.43 Oz)’ will cost you $17.99. However, at Safeway (a company owned by Albertsons) in Davis, California, it will cost you $19.99.
Target’s pricing appears a bit more consistent over the various regions it operates in, and it sells the 125-piece assorted Hershey’s bag for $14.99 in Boise and Davis. The price per ounce offered at Target is (0.38/ounce), while Albertsons and Safeway stand at ($0.46) and ($0.51), respectively.
Over at Walmart this same bag of candy is available for $14.96, only a three cent difference with Target and those are consistent for various stores.
What about Amazon?
Amazon sells the same package listed above for $39.99, much higher than brick and mortar retailers.
