Skydance Media reached a preliminary agreement to buy National Amusements, owned by Shari Redstone and her family, and merge with Paramount Global according to the Wall Street Journal.

The outlet reported that sources familiar with the deal said Shari Redstone, president of National Amusements, will refer the new deal to a Paramount special committee for review. The Redstone family holds

According to those sources, as part of the deal, Skydance, a production company behind some of Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission Impossible’, will reportedly pay $1.75 billion for National Amusements. Paramount shares rose in after hours trading 9%.

It’s believed that the agreement includes a 45-day period in which National Amusements and Paramount can shop around for another offer. Three weeks ago Shari Redstone suddenly ended merger talks with Skydance after months of back-and-forth talks.
