Update:

The stock market took a Trump-infused wobble after China-related announcements from the president sent the numbers into a spiral. Over the course of one day, more than a trillion dollars were lost thanks to his verbal attack on the Asian nation. Things appear to have turned around ahead of Columbus Day, with the former reality TV star writing: “Don’t worry about China, it will all be fine! Highly respected President Xi just had a bad moment. He doesn’t want Depression for his country, and neither do I. The U.S.A. wants to help China, not hurt it!!!”

Anyway, back to today. It’s Monday, October 13, 2025, which means many Americans will celebrate Columbus Day, also known in many areas as Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Given that today is a federal holiday, several government services and financial institutions will pause operations, but not all of them.

However, contrary to popular belief, there is no day off for the major U.S. stock exchanges, which will remain open on Monday. The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and the bond markets will all trade as usual, following their regular Monday schedule.

Can I send mail on Columbus Day?

While the stock market is open, that’s not to say every single public service will operate as normal. Federal agencies will close their doors, meaning many government workers will be off for the day. The U.S. Postal Service will also not be delivering regular mail or packages, with only USPS Priority Mail services running.

Private mail companies such as FedEx and UPS may keep open limited services during Columbus Day, albeit with potentially reduced hours.

Are banks open on Columbus Day?

Banks and their in-person branches will also be closed, but you should still have access to ATMs, online banking, and mobile apps.
