Isaac Newton, scientist: “Live your life as an exclamation rather than an explanation”

Considered the father of modern physics, the physicist, theologian, and inventor believed that people should act with passion and authenticity.

The life and legacy of Isaac Newton

Isaac Newton was born in 1642 in Woolsthorpe, England. He was a distinguished physicist, theologian, and inventor, and was also known as an alchemist. Many consider him the father of modern physics.

He attended a local school before enrolling at the University of Cambridge, specifically Trinity College, a leading center for students and scholars. During his university years, he gained deep knowledge of the mathematics of his time and developed his theory of gravity along with the laws of motion. These laws explain not only the behavior of objects on Earth, but also the movement of planets and satellites in space.

Newton made major contributions to experimental physics by studying light and prisms, showing that white light consists of the colors of the visible spectrum.

Among his most notable works is Principia (1687), in which he formulated the Law of Universal Gravitation and the laws of motion, and Opticks (1704), where he explored the nature of light, optics, and color theory.

Interesting facts about his life

One notable detail is that he was knighted by Queen Anne in 1705. It is also said that he was afraid of the dark and cleverly addressed this by making a lantern out of crumpled paper to light his way to school.

Newton stated: “Live your life as an exclamation rather than an explanation,” encouraging people to act with passion and authenticity, letting their actions speak for themselves instead of constantly justifying them.

Isaac Newton died on March 20, 1727, according to the Julian calendar, or March 31 under the Gregorian calendar. He was buried in Westminster Abbey, a resting place for many of Britain’s most prominent intellectual figures.
