Update:

The US Department of Agriculture does not believe relief in the country’s egg market is on the way for households. The 2025 forecast provided by the federal agency estimated that egg prices would increase by as much as 20 percent by the end of the year, prompting some businesses to take action.

Denny’s follows Waffle House and announces price hike

In early February, the beloved diner chain, Waffle House, informed customers that it would be increasing the price of menu items that feature eggs. For Waffle House patrons, the announcement did not come as a surprise as they have felt the rapid price hikes during their trips to the supermarket.

A few weeks later, Denny’s, another diner chain, announced a similar policy, citing the national shortage and market conditions. The company provided a statement to TODAY.com explaining that while "Denny’s remains committed to providing our guests with delicious meals they love at the value they expect,” they are going to raise prices.

We do our best to plan ahead with our vendors on items like eggs to minimize the impact market volatility has on our costs and menu pricing.” However, the company did not provide details on how much customers can expect prices to increase. Waffle House had tacked on $0.50 to menu items with eggs.

On February 21, the USDA reported that in some parts of the country, a dozen large white eggs were selling for over $8.

Impacts on Denny’s value menu

Denny’s did say their team would “continue to look for ways to provide options on our menu, including our $2 $4 $6 $8 value menu,” but warned customers that they should prepare to face higher prices on the menu.
