It’s the new industrial revolution: AI may lead to massive layoffs in major U.S. companies
Artificial Intelligence is close to taking over a number of jobs across the United States, potentially leading to mass layoffs.

The revolution is here — and the tech bros are planning for it.
Two companies investing billions in AI development, Amazon and Microsoft, are reportedly already preparing for large-scale layoffs across the board, driven by the belief that advanced artificial intelligence can replace human workers — for free.
According to Bloomberg, Microsoft is expected to announce massive cuts targeting its sales teams early next month. Meanwhile, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has admitted the company plans to reduce its workforce in the coming years.

“This will reduce our workforce as we get gains from using AI”
In an eerily robotic memo to employees that reads like a chapter from an Isaac Asimov novel, Jassy wrote: “As we roll out more Generative AI and agents, it should change the way our work is done. We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs.
It’s hard to know exactly where this nets out over time, but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company.”
Jassy’s message comes amid a sharp rise in layoffs: Microsoft cut 3% of its workforce in May, and Amazon has eliminated more than 27,000 jobs between 2022 and 2023. A report from Goldman Sachs last year estimated that generative AI could make 25% of human-powered jobs across all industries obsolete.
Barron’s reported that “Microsoft plans to invest $80 billion in its current fiscal year to build out data centrse that train models and run AI applications,” while Techwire warned that “the layoffs may affect more than just sales.”
Google is now the most profitable company in the world, surpassing Apple and Microsoft over the last 6 months.
