After a disastrous debate performance against Republican nominee Donald Trump last month, the pressure was high for President Joe Biden to step down from the 2024 campaign. He made the announcement that he would do so on Sunday afternoon, stating that it’s “in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Soon after, the president endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. With just four months until the election, Harris remans the frontrunner to replace Biden.

Biden was not the only one to endorse Harris, with several other Democratic lawmakers following suit.
