List of school and university closures in Florida due to Hurricane Helene
Hurricane Helene is in the Gulf and is forecast to slam into Florida’s Big Bend but will be felt statewide forcing school closures across the state.
Florida is bracing itself for the arrival of Hurricane Helene as it begins its march across the Gulf of Mexico. The outer bands of the monster storm are already lashing the Sunshine State well ahead of its expected arrival late Thursday. However, preparations to protect life and property should be completed by early Thursday before tropical storm conditions arrive.
The storm is forecast to come ashore in the Big Bend area where inundation could reach up to 20 feet above ground level. The remainder of the west coast of the Florida Peninsula is also at risk of life-threatening storm surge and evacuation orders have already been issued.
As well, school districts across the state have announced school closures ahead of Hurricane Helene’s arrival.
List of school and university closures in Florida due to Hurricane Helene
School closures already began for several districts on Wednesday. The remainder won’t open on Thursday. And many will stay closed through Friday after Hurricane Helene has moved inland as there is a risk for severe flooding in its wake.
The Florida Department of Education is providing a full up-to-date list of school closures across the state including K-12, colleges and universities in addition to other learning institutions.
