Movie star, singer, icon Olivia Newton-John passes away at 73: what was the cause of death?

The passing of Olivia Newton-John, who is best remembered for her role as Sandy in the movie ‘Grease’, was announced on Monday.

She filled our television screens and kept us smiling for decades... Olivia Netwon-John, best known for her role as Sandy in the ‘Grease’ has passed away at 73 years old. The star’s death that has shocked the world of the arts, they lose an icon. Olivia rose to fame in the 1970s thanks to her leading role in ‘Grease’ and ‘Xanadu’, among other titles.

Olivia’s husband, John Easterling, communicated her passing this Monday through her official social networks.

“Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Olivia Netwon-John’s long battle with breast cancer

Her cause of death has not yet been released but reporters at Variety believe it could be tied to a 2017 breast cancer diagnosis. In his tribute to his wife, Easterling, wrote “Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer,” and also spoke to “her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer.

John Travolta sends his condolences

One of the actress’ most famous co-stars John Travolta quickly released his condolences, writing “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”

The two remained friends long after they played opposite eachother in the 1950s set musical in the 1978.
