It’s the time of year to celebrate our teachers, and some restaurants and stores are giving them discounts and freebies to mark Teacher Appreciation Week.
Teachers play a crucial role in educating the future generation, and to honor them, National Teacher Appreciation Day (also known as National Teachers Day) is being celebrated on Tuesday, May 7, which falls within National Teacher Appreciation Week.
In a proclamation recognizing the holiday last week, President Joe Biden said, “Teachers are the heart and soul of our nation… we thank them for their tireless effort and recommit to taking care of our teachers, just as they have taken care of all of us.”
As a token of gratitude, a number of restaurants and stores are offering discounts and freebies to the country’s educators.

Buffalo Wild Wings
This week until Sunday, May 12, teachers and school staff members can claim 20% off their bill for dine-in, call-in, and walk-in orders. All you need is a valid ID to get the discount.
HTeaO
If tea helps you relax in between classes, HTeaO is giving teachers a 50% discount on cups of tea from May 13 to May 26. Just show a valid professional school ID.
Peter Piper Pizza
Your teacher ID can get you a free personal pizza in-store at Peter Piper Pizza until May 10. You can redeem one per day with a valid form of identification.
Sonic Drive-In
If you have signed up for the Sonic Teachers’ Circle Rewards program, you can avail of deals through May 20 including a BOGO free Sonic Blast and BOGO free entrée. You can also get a free cheeseburger or free large drink or slush with any purchase.
Staples
Through May 11, Staples is giving teachers free supply kits with markers, pens, pencils, and glue. Offer good while supplies last. Teachers with a valid ID can also get a 20% discount when they shop in-store.
TGI Fridays
TGI Fridays restaurants will be gifting teachers a free meal on May 7, Teachers Day, at participating locations. They can choose from a cheeseburger with fries, a half rack of ribs with a side, and Caesar salad with grilled chicken, among others.

What is National Teacher Appreciation Week and why is it celebrated?
National Teacher Appreciation Week is an annual event held to honor and show appreciation for the contributions of teachers to the education and development of students. It takes place during the first full week of May, with Teacher Appreciation Day falling on the Tuesday of that week.
The celebration pays tribute to the hard work, dedication, and impact of teachers on the lives of their students and the community. It provides a chance for students, parents, administrators, and the public to give thanks for the important role that teachers play by organizing special events and gestures of gratitude. These may include awards ceremonies, luncheons, thank-you notes, and gifts.
National Teacher Appreciation Week was first observed in 1984, established by the National Parent Teacher Association and the National Education Association. Since then, it has become an annual tradition celebrated across the United States.
