Neither Florida nor Texas, these are the states that will give a stimulus check to their citizens in 2025 if they are eligible

Americans are still dealing with elevated prices which has prompted action to provide financial relief. Here’s who will and may receive some extra cash.

Financial relief payments for Americans in 2025

One of the major concerns of voters in the 2024 elections was the state of the economy. While inflation has come down from highs not seen in forty years, consumers are still reeing elevated prices which are hurting pocketbooks across the nation.

The federal government hasn’t approved any new nationwide stimulus program, but the Internal Revenue Service is working to make sure that those who still haven’t benefited from the final round of payments get the funds that they were eligible for. The IRS announced that around a million Americans have been automatically sent the $1,400 from the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit that they qualified for but hadn’t claimed, which should arrive this month.

However, there are others who could be looking forward to some extra cash from their state or local government. Here’s a look.

Americans who could receive inflation relief payments and tax rebates in 2025

New York Governor Kathy Hochul proposed the state’s first-ever Inflation Refund in December. The proposal would take around $3 billion in excess sales tax revenue and deliver it to roughly 8.6 million residents across the Empire State.

Individual taxpayers who earn less than $150,000 could receive a payment of $300 and families making less than $300,000 could get a $500 payment. If the State Legislature passes the proposal, taxpayers would begin seeing the payments in the autumn of 2025.

Colorado citizens approved the Taxpayer Bill of Rights or TABOR in 1992, which limits the amount of revenue that the state can retain or spend. For the 2023 tax year, residents were sent payments up to $800 in the form of tax refunds.

This year those payments are expected to be less, but are still estimated to be between $181 and $571 for single filers and double that amount for joint filers. The estimated amounts per income group according to the Colorado Legislative Council 2024 TABOR refund projections are as follows:

Adjusted gross incomeSingle filersJoint filers
up to $53,000$181$362
$53,000 to $107,000$241$482
$107,001 to $172,000$277$554
$172,001 to $243,000$330$660
$243,001 to $320,000$355$710
$320,001 and up$571$1,142

Additionally, there are a number of universal or guaranteed basic income programs being piloted across the United States. One of which began sending payments to 200 beneficiaries in Sacramento, California on December 15, 2024. The payments of $750 will be sent each month until November 15, 2025, through the Sacramento Family First program.
