Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda all permit travel by land or sea for US citizens with a passport card instead of a full passport book. Canada will accept other proof of US Citizenship (such as a birth certificate) and a photo ID instead. Travellers under 16 only need proof of citizenship but you not travel to Canada or Mexico by air without a US passport book.
