Elon Musk tops the list of people who could become the first trillionaire. However, billionaire Mark Cuban says there could be a dark horse in the race.

Update:

Elon Musk has seen his net worth skyrocket in just a short span of time. He was just shy of a mere $20 billion in 2019 but three years later his net worth was over ten times greater and by the end of last year he doubled that amount to surpass $400 billion.

So with his net worth “growing at an average rate of 109.88 per cent every year,” according to a report by Informa Connect Academy, he is leading the list of multi-billionaires who could become the first trillionaire. It is estimated that at the current rate of growth of his fortune that he may achieve that milestone by 2027.

However, Mark Cuban doesn’t think it will be him nor any other of the titans from the traditional tech sector. Instead it will be some dark horse who has yet to prove themselves pioneering a technology that is set to reshape life for all of humankind and perhaps life itself on planet Earth.

Mind you that Cuban’s prediction was made back in 2017 at the SXSW Conference and Festivals but it is still, if not more, prescient. “I am telling you, the world’s first trillionaires are going to come from somebody who masters AI and all its derivatives and applies it in ways we never thought of,” the star investor of ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ told the conference.

At the time it may have seemed a bit of a stretch as the technology still didn’t have much to show for itself. However, advances are starting to be made at breakneck speeds and have helped companies investing in the technology see their value soar. That said, a little-known start-up in China rocked the industry when it launched DeepSeek AI chatbot which was created for pennies on the dollar compared to industry leaders.

That goes to show that there could be a new wave of disrupters to rock the boat and overtake the current class of tech titans by coming up with innovative ways to apply AI. Should they succeed in doing what Cuban said, mastering AI and all its derivatives then applying it in ways that were never thought of until they did, that individual could see a meteoric rise which could leave that of the likes of Musk in their dust.
