Though they may have faded from your memory, anyone alive during the 1990s will remember the Beanie Babie craze.
Beanie Babies were produced by Ty Inc., founded by businessman Ty Warner. Unlike traditional stuffed animals that are plushy, Beanie Babies were filled with plasitc beads typically with a velvety smooth outler layer.
As the craze died down, interst in Beanie Babies stayed alive through collector communiteis, and today, those with some of these toys on their hands can make a pretty penny selling them online.
Here’s a look at some of the most valuble.
The Original Line UP
Ty Inc, began producing Beanie Babies in 1993, and the inital collection are still considered some of the most prized pieces by collectors.
Beanie Babies List (Early Releases)
- Cubbie (Bear, 1993)
- Pinchers (Lobster, 1994)
- Patti (Platypus, 1993)
- Chocolate (Moose, 1994)
- Flash (Orca, 1993)
- Splash (Whale, 1993)
- Legs (Frog, 1994)
- Spot (Dog, 1993)
- Squealer (Pig, 1994)
Cubbie, which was released in 1993 and named Brownie, was one of the first Beanie Babies to be released, and sells for hundreds of dollars on eBay.
Pinchers, which hit the market as Punchers, after a typo, is another early release, that also sells for hundreds. Both in the case, the Beanie Babies with the original names (mistake or not are worth more).
Patti the Platipus also forms part of this line up, and although the original was released in magenta, Ty Inc, later released verions in maroon, purple, and raspberry.
Spot, the dog, was another fan favorite, because the orignal release did not inlcude a spot on the Beanie Baby’s fur, which was later updated. Spot without the spot, can go for as high as $300, whereas collectors also charge a pretty penny for later editions as spot was discontinued in the late 1990s.
