Revolution at Walmart: the decision that will change its stores forever

Walmart, one of the largest corporations on Earth, has been compelled to adapt to the continuously evolving landscape of consumer behavior as major competitors like Amazon have introduced competition unprecedented since the rise of e-commerce.

As the company seeks to attract talent, it looked to Silicon Valley for inspiration in the design of its new headquarters, which opened its doors in January.

“Throughout our journey, we listened to thousands of ideas, suggestions and dreams to create a space that truly serves the people who bring Walmart to life,” reads the press release where the announcement was made.

Bringing the Silicon Valley model to Arkansas

The company says that input from associates has been critical in the design, everything from “wellness offerings to eateries of choice.” The press release makes it sound like a campus more common in the tech industry. Some of those eateries include Jamba Juice, a tapas restaurant, and a BBQ joint. Workers will also be able to access a Walmart pharmacy on the premises.

The announcement highlights a possible desire by the company to compete with Silicon Valley to attract young talent. However, with many younger workers flocking to major cities and jobs that can be done remotely, it remains to be seen if the new campus will be enough to attract workers to Bentonville.
