Toyota announces recall of certain vehicles due to crash and injury risk: list of affected models
Automakers issue voluntary recalls when a vehicle model has a safety defect that could increase the risk of a crash. Toyota recently announced a recall of certain vehicles because of a malfunction involving the instrument panel display.
According to Toyota, “some areas of the 12.3-combination meter display may become blank during startup and would not show some warnings/indicators to the driver. This causes the vehicles not to meet federal safety requirements.”
The company explained that driving without visible warning messages could delay a driver’s response to potential issues and “increase the risk of a crash or injury.”
List of vehicles affected by Toyota’s new safety recall
This safety recall affects certain 2024 and 2025 model-year Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Mirai, Lexus UX, and Lexus GX vehicles in North America. According to the company, approximately 82,000 vehicles in the United States are included in the recall.
Toyota stated that all known owners of affected vehicles will be notified and instructed to take their vehicle to an authorized Toyota or Lexus dealership. To correct the issue, dealers will update the instrument panel software at no cost to customers.
Owners of affected vehicles are expected to receive notification letters in late July, and repairs are expected to begin shortly thereafter.
How to check whether your Toyota vehicle is included in the recall
Even if you own one of the models listed above, your vehicle may not be affected by this recall. To confirm whether your vehicle is included, visit Toyota’s website or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall portal.
To perform a search, you will need to enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or your license plate information. The VIN is a unique 17-character code located on the driver’s side of the dashboard near the base of the windshield. You will also need your VIN when contacting your dealership to schedule a repair.
For additional questions or more information, vehicle owners can contact Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.
