Amid criticism against her for her posts about the conflict between Israel and Palestine, Selena Gomez announced that she will delete her Instagram account, the social platform on which she is the woman with the most followers.

Earlier this week, the singer shared on her Instagram Story with her 430 million followers that she had to stay away from her social media due to what’s happening in the world.

“People being tortured and killed or any act of hate toward any one group is horrific. We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good,” Gomez wrote.

“I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people geting hurt. That’s what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t,” she added.

In a second post, Selena posted a black and white photo of her younger sister Gracie Elliott Teefey. “Having a sister has made me tragically sick every day. I would do anything for children and innocent lives, she shared on her Instagram stories.

However, after both posts, the actress began to be criticized by several users on various social networks, who pointed out that with millions of followers she could make a change.

“430 millions of followers. Yes a post can do a lot selena gomez, you taking a break on social media cause this ‘affect you’ but you’re in a millions dollar house while people are getting killed. you can’t even defend palestine you take a ‘neutral’ stance to save face,” shared a user on X, formerly Twitter.

“’I wish I could change the world. But a post wont.’ Shame on you Selena Gomez. You have 430 million followers yet people with less followers be doing so much more. Our voices are being heard. You are just ignorant,” another user posted.

Given the overwhelmingly negative response to Gomez’s statements, it appears that the celebrity ultimately decided to leave the social media platform and delete it.
