Shakira has released the highly anticipated single, ‘Monotonia,’ which features Ozuna. The video for the song begins with the Colombian singer in a supermarket with tears in her eyes. It wasn’t your fault, nor was it mine / It was the monotony’s fault never said anything, but it hurt meI knew this would happen,” says the song’s first stanza.

After those first words, an unknown person throws a bomb at her, and Shakira’s heart comes out as a result of the blow. The symbolism at this point in the song leads one to believe that the man who was shooting was Gerard Piqué, her former partner with whom he had two children, Milan and Sasha.

“You in yours, with me doing the same, always looking to be the protagonist,” says Shakira before receiving the strong blow. The Colombian then mentions that her partner left her “because of your narcissism,” which amplifies the thought that the song is dedicated to Piqué, who ended the relationship a couple of months ago.

With her heart in her hands, Shakira walks out of the supermarket and begins to run. Ozuna stops her and continues with the chorus of the song, and she immediately remains still, thinking with her eyes in the distance while the singer continues.

Chorus: It wasn’t your fault, nor was it mine / It was the monotony’s fault never said anything, but it hurt me / I knew this would happen / You doing your thing, and I was doing the same / Always looking for prominence / And you forgot what we were one day

After that, Shakira continues with: “There’s nothing left of what there was, I’m telling you honestly,” making it clear that their love no longer exists. Afterward, she proceeds to lock her heart in a locked chest and guards it. Ozuna closes the box and stores it in a secure vault as she leaves the room.
