Spotify wants you to be able to listen to music even if there is a bad connection: How will it work?
This the new “Your offline mix” function will automatically collate tracks for you to listen to when your internet connection is poor.
Although Spotify is the market leader in music streaming, it suffers from the same problem as any music app: if you lose your connection while listening to something you haven’t downloaded, you’ll be left with earphones playing no music.
This happens a lot on public transport. For example, when you go by subway there are some stops that do not have an internet connection, so you lose the signal and after a few seconds the music stops. And this is what Spotify wants to avoid.
Spotify works on the new feature ‘Your Offline Mix’
So the company is working on a new feature called ‘Your Offline Mix’ which is a playlist that automatically saves to your phone and is “a mix of your recently played songs for when the vibe is high, but your connection is low” as explained by the CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek.
In this way, and as you can see in the message that Daniel Ek has published through the social network Twitter, we can see how this new system works.
In the posted message it states that “We have been testing a new feature called “Your Mix Offline”, a playlist designed for those times when you may not be online”
And while it doesn’t go into much detail, it looks like it will offer up to 3.5 hours of songs you’ve recently listened to.
If you have Spotify Premium, it’s more than likely that you have some playlists downloaded to save on data consumption. But the idea of this mix is different: to have the songs you listen to the most at hand whenever you might need them.
The mood changes and you may not feel like listening to any of the playlists you have downloaded. This is where this new list with your favorite Spotify songs comes in.
This is especially in those cases in which you are caught by an unexpected situation. For example, you may not have thought to update your downloaded Spotify lists before a flight, or you are going by subway to an unusual address and you are caught in an area without data. With the Your Mix Offline tool, you’ll have entertaining music for a long time.
