The investigation into the death of Mango founder Isak Andic has taken a new turn. According to sources familiar with the case, the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police) are not ruling out homicide. While the initial hypothesis pointed to a mountain accident, inconsistencies in the statements given by his son Jonathan Andic — the only person with him when he fell — have raised police suspicions. Jonathan is now being investigated for possible involvement in his father’s death.

From the day of the incident, December 14 of last year, authorities treated the case as an accidental death. Isak Andic, 71, and his son Jonathan had been hiking in Collbató, in the Montserrat mountain range. On their way back along the trail, the Mango founder fell into a ravine more than 100 meters deep.

A month after the tragedy, the judge overseeing the case provisionally closed the investigation, but police continued to pursue what they considered a suspicious death. There were no witnesses, and the area was not particularly dangerous. These factors led the court to reopen the case.

So far, the Mossos d’Esquadra have not found definitive evidence clarifying what happened that day. However, statements from both Jonathan and Isak’s wife, professional golfer Estefanía Knuth, have intensified police doubts.

Jonathan Andic’s accounts have reportedly been inconsistent. His initial statement — given shortly after his father’s death — could be attributed to the shock of the moment. Yet his second version, offered after some time had passed, contained numerous contradictions that deepened investigators’ concerns.

Meanwhile, the testimony of Estefanía Knuth also raised red flags. She described a strained relationship between father and son, which the police consider a potentially relevant detail.

Given these circumstances, the investigation has entered a second phase, and the judge has imposed a gag order to preserve confidentiality. Investigators believe this measure will help them confirm or rule out suspicions surrounding the Mango founder’s death.

Spanish newspaper El País has spoken with authorized representatives of the Andic family, who maintain their confidence in Jonathan’s innocence. “The Andic family has not, and will not, comment on Isak Andic’s death during these months. However, they wish to express their respect for the ongoing investigation and will continue to cooperate, as they have done so far, with the relevant authorities. They are confident that this process will conclude soon and that Jonathan Andic’s innocence will be proven,” the family stated.
