The travel hack going viral: How “skiplagging” can save you money on airline tickets
What is “skiplagging”, and can it help you save money on flights?

Over the years, we’ve seen huge increases in flight prices for ordinary people, so finding a bargain has become that bit more difficult.
However, they’re still out there, and this might just be the tip you need in order to seal the deal on a cheap holdiay.
Chelsea Dickenson, the founder of the Holiday Expert, revealed on a podcast that “skiplagging” is a way for you to get the best bang-for-your-buck when it comes to air travel.
According to Dickenson, “Skiplagging is when a passenger books a flight with a layover but intentionally gets off at the layover city instead of continuing to the final destination.” Sounds cheeky, but according to the writer, it works.
For example, it would mean booking a flight from New York to San Francisco via Houston is cheaper than going from California directly to watch Durant and the Rockets.
She explains that the price is ultimately lower “because the layover city is usually cheaper to fly to as part of a longer route.” She adds that airlines “absolutely hate it because you’re wasting a seat on one of their flights.”
However, there’s a potential catch: “You can get blacklisted by doing it” Dickenson warns. “Some people have been totally told they cannot book with airlines if they’ve done it repeatedly.”
If this feels a little risky, do remember to check flight prices on incognito mode on your internet browser, which means the website won’t log you’ve been on there and adjust their prices accordingly.
Also, compare various airlines before picking the perfect journey, and always book as early as possible to avoid heart palpitations when you see the big numbers on screen.
