The traditional Bacs (Bankers’ Automated Clearing System) is an outdated system that only operates on business days, excluding weekends and bank holidays. This means that direct debits and certain payments are not processed as expected during weekends.

If your payment date falls on a weekend, it will be delayed until the next business day. This can cause delays of 4-5 days, especially during holiday periods.

This can make calculating personal finances tricky, with payments seemingly lost in an ether until processed. Try and get your payments sent at the beginning of a week to avoid this, if you can.
