Update:

Today, Tuesday 18 March, President Donald Trump is expected to release approximately 80,000 pages of documents concerning the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This move aims to address enduring public curiosity and numerous conspiracy theories surrounding the tragic event.

The assassination of JFK has been the subject of extensive investigations, including the Warren Commission, which concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Despite these findings, many Americans remain skeptical, fueling a plethora of theories over the decades. The powerful movie from Oliver Stone doubled down on these.

The upcoming document release is anticipated to shed more light on this historic incident, potentially clarifying lingering questions. That said, almost all the information in the report is already in the public domain, so don’t get your hopes up too much in the belief that something shocking is about to be presented.

When and where can you see the JFK files?

The documents are scheduled to be made available in the afternoon, Eastern Time. You can access them through the National Archives' official website, where they will be published in digital format. A page already exists with currently released documents, FAQs etc.

Given the volume of information, navigating these files may require patience and time, so you may just want to wait until respectable journalists have applied their summarizing skills to it.

In summary:

  • Release date: Tuesday 18 March, 2025
  • Time: afternoon ET
  • Where to access: National Archives' official website
  • Volume: approximately 80,000 pages
  • Content: documents related to JFK’s assassination, with potential insights but unlikely to contain groundbreaking revelations

What has Robert F. Kennedy Jr said on the JFK files?

Now secretary of Health and Human Services in the new Trump administration, Robert Kennedy Jr has for a long time asserted that the CIA was involved in his uncle’s death and that there was more than one assassin. He called it a “60-year cover up.”

When Trump said “it’s going to be very interesting,” we’ll see which side of the story has more weight added to it. It’s worth noting that the president has also signed an executive order for the release of records related to the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr and Robert Kennedy. No dates have been provided for those yet.
