For several weeks, multiple airports across the country have experienced security checkpoint delays of more than three hours due to staffing shortages at the TSA, and President Donald Trump has now presented a solution.

TSA officers have been affected by the partial government shutdown and the lack of funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the agency’s parent department.

The shutdown has left thousands of TSA officers without pay, leading to widespread absences, resignations, and temporary closures of security checkpoints. In response to the staffing shortage, Trump ordered the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Now, the U.S. president has announced that he will sign an order instructing the new Secretary of Homeland Security to immediately pay Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers.

Trump seeks to resolve the “Emergency Situation” at airports

On Truth Social, President Trump criticized Democrats and announced that he would instruct Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to issue immediate payment.

“The Radical Left Democrats, and their “Leader,” Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, have made it very clear where they stand, and that is: ON THE SIDE OF CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS, AND NOT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE [...] Because the Democrats have recklessly created a true National Crisis, I am using my authorities under the Law to protect our Great Country, as I always will do!” he wrote.

“Therefore, I am going to sign an Order instructing the Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, to immediately pay our TSA Agents in order to address this Emergency Situation and to quickly stop the Democrat Chaos at the Airports. It is not an easy thing to do, but I am going to do it!” he added.

The president also thanked TSA and ICE personnel for their work at airports. “I will not allow the Radical Left Democrats to hold our Country hostage any longer,” he said.

When will the DHS shutdown end?

To resolve the Department of Homeland Security’s funding shortfall, which also affects the TSA, Democrats and Republicans in Congress must reach an agreement and pass a funding bill.

However, Democrats have opposed any legislation unless Republicans and the Trump administration agree to implement significant changes to ICE.

At the same time, President Donald Trump has opposed a bipartisan funding bill unless the Save America Act is also passed, a measure aimed at reforming voter registration and voting rules in federal elections.
