As the Russian invasion of it’s neighbour enters it’s 74th day, the band confirmed that they were invited to the capital by President Zelensky. “We were invited us to play in Kiev in the form of solidarity with the Ukrainians and so here’s what we came to do“.

The band joined up with local artist Taras Topolia, frontman of the band Antytila as he joined Bono for a powerful version of ‘Stand by Me’ in front of a small crowd at Kyiv’s Khreshchatyk metro station, which has become an improvised bomb shelter during the Russian invasion.

The U2 duo then performed a series of the band’s most iconic songs including: Sunday Bloody Sunday , Desire and With or Without You. “People in Ukraine are not just fighting for their freedom alone but for all of us who love freedom,” Bono said as the anti-aircraft alarm sirens sounded in the capital during the brief performance.
