Tim Walz will deliver his parting shot to the nation on late-night television on the eve of the 2024 US presidential election. The Democratic vice presidential nominee is the special guest on CBS’ political satire talk show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday - just hours before polling places across the United States open for one of the most anticipated Election Days in recent times.

The program was pre-recorded, not at the Ed Sullivan Theater studios in Manhattan, but on location last week in Bucks County, Pennsylvania - a key swing state that could determine who ends up in the Oval Office next January.

National polls suggest that there is very little to separate Harris and Trump - the majority of them have them tied. Which makes the battle for Pennsylvania even more vital.

So what topics can we expect to hear the governor of Minnesota touch on in Monday’s chat with Colbert? In his last rally in Flagstaff, Arizona on Saturday, Walz warned that if he gets into office, Trump is planning to “cut $2 trillion from discretionary spending” which equates to “cutting Medicare and social security”.

He also spoke about the abortion ban in 14 US states and promises regarding the reproductive freedom bill, extending the $35 insulin cap...

Vice president Kamala Harris appeared on Colbert’s show a few weeks ago, in which she vowed to build three million new homes before the end of her first term and give potential first-time home buyers a $25,000 down payment assistance. All very light, laid-back with little in the way of probing questions - Harris even cracked open a can of Miller High Life beer - to illustrate that she is different to Joe Biden and Donald Trump – both, notoriously teetotal.

Comedian John Oliver is Colbert’s other guest. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will air on Monday 4 November at 11:35 p.m. ET / 8:35 p.m. PT.
