Venezuela is preparing for a U.S. land invasion: “It shouldn’t happen, but we’re prepared”

Update:

Given Trump’s rising levels of political and military aggression toward Venezuela, the South American country is now tightening its defences and bracing for a potential U.S. land invasion.

The heightened tensions follow recent U.S. military actions in the Caribbean, including strikes on Venezuelan vessels accused, with no evidence, of drug trafficking. Trump claims they are “narco-terrorists”, a word he probably thinks he invented; all he is doing is pushing for Maduro to be removed from power.

Getting involved in Venezuela’s politics has been a pet project for Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has taken a public disliking to Maduro. Earlier this year, he told Fox News that the leader was a “horrible dictator” and said that the U.S. was to be “going to work on [the] policy” of bringing him down.

U.S. invasion “shouldn’t happen, but we are prepared”

The U.S. lie of fentanyl being produced in Venezuela is also a cover story: most of the drug that is brought into the country comes from Mexico, not South America. Venezuela is not even one of the top cocaine producers on the continent: a US Drug Enforcement Administration report from 2025 says 84% of the cocaine seized in the US comes from Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia.

These operations have resulted in the deaths of at least 14 civilians who were not even identified, simply blown to shreds by U.S. military action authorised by a president keen on stoking tensions with a nation he and his cronies despise.

In response, Venezuela has initiated a series of military exercises dubbed “Sovereign Caribbean,” involving thousands of troops, naval and air assets, and advanced electronic warfare systems.

The drills, conducted on La Orchila Island, feature amphibious landings, drone deployments, and anti-aircraft operations. Tarek William Saab, a close ally of President Maduro, told the BBC that Trump aims to turn Venezuela into a “colony” of the US. He added that the invasion “shouldn’t happen, but we are prepared”.

On Sunday, guided-missile destroyer USS Gravely arrived at Trinidad and Tobago, just off Venezuela’s coast, a move that Venezuela’s government has called “a military provocation by Trinidad and Tobago in coordination with the CIA”. Adding to the claims, the BBC reported that Trump has indeed “authorised the deployment of the CIA to Venezuela.”
