Saving a few dollars on your regular purchases is possible if you know how to pay attention. Most retailers usually code their products to identify those that are on sale or even clearance.

If you look closely at the price tags on your products, you may notice that some of the endings are repeated, which helps customers identify whether an item is on sale or will sell out soon. That said, we’re sharing some key endings that are synonymous with discounts at Costco so you can take advantage of the low prices, especially on products you buy regularly.

These are the secret Costco price codes that will allow you to save on your purchases

According to an analysis by the financial company Motley Fool, there are four main endings at Costco to recognize if a product is discounted or at its regular price: 9, 7, 88 and *.

If the product codes end with a number nine, it is the regular price of the product, although it does not always mean that it is an expensive product, since there are brands that tend to be cheaper than others, such as Costco’s own brand, Kirkland, which sells products at regular price but lower than its competition.

If the product label ends with a number seven, don’t let it go, because it’s probably a clearance sale. If you identify this ending in food, we recommend that you pay close attention to the expiration dates so that it’s not a bad investment and you buy a product that’s about to expire before you can use it.

Items ending in 88 represent products on sale, mainly for two reasons: it is an item that was returned in good condition or the company may just be trying to move old inventory. Now, if the label ends with an asterisk you have found an item that is about to be discontinued, although this does not always represent a discount.

Keeping an eye out for these codes could help you make better purchasing decisions and save money every time you go to Costco.
