Estados Unidos Update:

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has been rushed to a hospital in the Washington area. According to initial reports, the transfer took place via ambulance on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 17.

Sources familiar with the matter told CNN that Noem was conscious at the time of the transfer and even maintained communication with her security team. The ambulance was escorted by several vehicles carrying Secret Service agents.

Tricia McLaughlin, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), revealed that Secretary Noem suffered an allergic reaction and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. McLaughlin clarified that she is alert and recovering.

“Secretary Noem had an allergic reaction today. She was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. She is alert and recovering,” reported McLaughlin.

Who is Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security?

On January 25, the U.S. Senate confirmed Kristi Noem as the new Secretary of Homeland Security under the Trump administration. She previously served as the governor of South Dakota. She is currently leading President Donald Trump’s plans to curb unauthorized immigration and implement deportations.

Kristi has been very strong on border security,” Trump said in a statement last November when he officially announced her appointment. “She will work closely with ‘border czar’ Tom Homan to secure the border and ensure that our American homeland is safe from our adversaries,” the now-president added.

The official has been involved in several controversies. In 2024, she was banned from visiting the lands of the nine federally recognized Native American tribes in South Dakota after claiming that drug cartels had infiltrated some of them.

She was also accused of killing her dog. The Guardian shared excerpts from her biography, in which she described how she shot Cricket, her 14-month-old puppy, after it attacked a family’s chickens and then tried to bite her. Noem explained to Fox News that she decided to put Cricket down due to concerns for her children’s safety.
