The New York State Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) remains an essential mechanism by which citizens of the state can gain access to food and other benefits that would otherwise be impossible for various individuals and families to enjoy.

What is SNAP?

Administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the New York State Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is the new name for the food stamp program. The program issues monthly electronic benefits that can be used in the same way as cash at authorized retail food stores. Eligibility and benefit levels are based on household size, income, assets, and other factors.

Who is eligible for SNAP?

Understandably, one must be a resident of the state of New York in order to be eligible for the food stamp program, however, there are a few other requirements that must be met. See below for a list of all essential criteria for eligibility:

  • You have a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001,
